Job overview

  • An exciting opportunity has arisen for a newly created  1 year fixed term Clinical Research Nurse / Clinical Research Practitioner to join our friendly  Clinical Research Facility (CRF) Oncology Research Team.
  •  Clinical Research Facility (CRF) research team play a key role in the delivery of clinical research at St. George's Hospital, developing and creating robust systems and processes to enable clinical research to run smoothly, efficiently and whilst ensuring the highest of standards are maintained.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and management of an agreed Oncology Solid Cancers clinical research portfolio at St George’s Hospital NIHR CRF.
  • The post holder will work collaboratively with the research teams and wider multidisciplinary team in the management of their own caseload of clinical trials patients and be accountable for the achievement of local and national targets in relation to the service.
  • The post holder will work with a high level of autonomy, taking delegated responsibility from clinicians for clinical decision making, and will work closely with investigators and multidisciplinary staff.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsibilities include facilitating study set-up; identifying suitable patients through the process of MDT’s/screening notes; collecting data; interviewing; supporting and monitoring patients and data entry.
  • The post holder will also be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients advocate.
  • The post holder must also be willing to move to   different clinical specialties within the remit of their qualifications and where the need to do so is identified.

Qualifications and Trianing

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse / Live NMC pin number.
  • Relevant post registration programme
  • ENB 998 0r professionally recognized equivalent teaching course
Desirable criteria
  • For CRP: Registration on the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Clinical Research Practitioner Accredited Register, or working or willing to work towards
  • Good Clinical Practice Certificate, or willingness to be trained in GCP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration/post degree experience
  • Experience in delivering evidence based practice
  • Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
  • Previous experience in audit and evaluation
  • Experience of acting as a patient advocate
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Clinical Research
  • Experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Experience working as a preceptor/facilitator

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Well-developed clinical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritise workload
  • Competent use of relevant software specifically spreadsheets

  • Experience in ECG’s, spirometry and phlebotomy
