Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Pharmacy department at St Georges University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The individual will support the Pharmacy Stores and Distribution manager in the day to day management of the Pharmacy Stores and Distribution service across the Trust.  

 

The Pharmacy Department is highly regarded in the Trust and has over 270 staff members. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding with opportunities for personal development and further postgraduate education. All of our pharmacists complete a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent and we are constantly expanding our pool of non-medical prescribing pharmacists. We support pharmacists to pursue opportunities in research to further expand their portfolio.  

Investment in facilities includes automated dispensing in our large main dispensary, which covers inpatient, outpatient and home delivery services. We have four satellite dispensaries, attached to specialist areas to promote efficient dispensing. Our dispensaries are led by experienced pharmacy technicians allowing clinical staff to focus on patient care, medicines optimisation and care group work. Automated dispensing cabinets are used in the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Ward, supporting automated pharmacy services on ward level. The aseptic unit holds of a “Specials” Manufacturing Authorisation (MS) licence by MHRA.

Main duties of the job

·       To support the Pharmacy Stores & Distribution Manager in the day to day management of the Pharmacy Stores and Distribution Service (receipt, storage, assembly and distribution) including responsibility over stock control and investigations.

 

·       To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician – Procurement, Stores & Distribution by being an Omnicell Superuser and supporting the implementation and management of Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) within the Trust

 

·       To assist in the development and implementation of training programs that ensure that all staff are trained to the appropriate level, reviewing, and evaluating training needs on a regular basis.

·       To participate in the Pharmacy topping up service to wards and departments within the Trust, including raising and assembling of orders on the Pharmacy computer system

·       To assist in the provision, maintenance and support of specialist Pharmacy systems including JAC/CMM, BD Rowa robotics, Omnicell etc.

·       To conduct annual Performance and Development Reviews (PDRs) for all Stores & Distribution

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths & English GCSE grade 4 or equivalent qualification
  • NVQ 2 – Pharmacy Services
  • Working towards or willingness to work towards NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 3

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Hospital Pharmacy experience
  • Pharmacy stores and distribution experience
  • Experience of using Omnicell/ADC cabinets
  • Experience of working with Pharmacy Robotics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with BD Robotics
  • Experience in troubleshooting medicine discrepancies using multiple systems
  • Omnicell System administrator qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Proficient use of the JAC/CMM computer system
  • Able to accurately follow written procedures under pressure
  • Demonstrate experience in prioritisation of medicines supply
Desirable criteria
