Job overview
The Maternity Support Worker is a valuable member of the team that delivers clinical care under the supervision of a registered midwife or Nurse.
The post holder will support the midwifery team in providing care to all women, in all care settings.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that women and their babies are cared for in a safe environment and that privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.
The post holder will provide direct care and provide verbal and written reports.
To actively seek the views of women and their families on the understanding of their care needs and develop a relationship to ensure the woman’s experience is positive.
This is a rotational post and the post holder will be expected to rotate into all areas of the maternity department.

We are looking to recruit friendly, professional and motivated individuals with the ability to work as part of a team and who are willing to play a key role in our maternity workforce providing high quality care.
The Duchess of Kent Maternity Unit for Women & Newborn babies is situated in Northwest London and is part of the Hillingdon Hospital. We are a busy unit with currently around 4200 births each year, with plans to expand our maternity services and we would like to offer the right individuals the opportunity to join our team.

The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To assist the registered midwife/professional in the delivery of midwifery care.
2. To communicate with women, in such a way, that respects and takes into account their level of understanding.
3. The post holder will support, and care for women and their babies with infant feeding and actively encourage and support women who choose to breast feed their babies in line with the Trust policy and national initiatives in a calm, relaxed environment offering current evidence based information and continuity. The post holder will keep the midwife informed of progress and report any problems encountered
