Job overview

Working as part of the Catering Team, in all aspects of food preparation and cooking, to provide of a high quality catering service to patients, staff and visitors restaurants and hospitality functions.

To meet standards in line with agreed policy, procedures, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) profitability and productivity.

Maintain good customer and colleague relations at all times.

Main duties of the job

  • Completion of hygiene records and documents as per HACCP.(Hazards Analysis Critical control Point)
  • Maintaining high standards of personal and general food hygiene.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and tidiness in food preparation area and supporting catering areas.
  • Ensure all equipment used for food production is safe and clean,
  • Prepare cook and present food for staff, patient’s visitors and hospitality functions, within budgetary costs, receive training as necessary
  • Probing of all food temperatures and recording, during storage, preparation, regeneration and service adhering to food hygiene legislation at all times.
  • Supporting with the management of stock: receipt, rotation storage, stocking up and stock taking.
  • Cleaning and wash-up of equipment, machinery, associated with the above service.
  • Reporting of maintenance and pest control issues.
  • Appropriate disposal of refuse.
  • Maintaining safe systems of work.
  • Ensure the meals are ready for service times as instructed.
  • Follow standard recipes; adhere to portion sizes and control.
  • Cater for special diet requirements for patient dining service as required.
  • Assist with menu planning, rotas, and ordering. Receive any relevant training as necessary.
  • Other duties as required according to the needs of the service

  1. Attend trust mandatory training and other compliance training
  2. Supporting the department to achieve maximum sores on EHO( Environmental Health officer) audit.
  3. Report any compliments, complaints or incidents and take such remedial action as is necessary or practical.
  4. Support with the productivity, efficiency and developments within the catering department.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2/3 in food preparation and cookery or equivalent qualification.
  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety.
  • Knowledge and experience of effectively using catering equipment
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of special diets
  • Level 3 Award in Food Safety or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience in a similar operation
