Job overview
1. Act as the Senior Maintenance Technician/Engineer to be the first response to any urgent/high-priority reactive maintenance (mechanical and electrical) issues at both the Hillingdon Hospital (HH) and Mount Vernon Hospital (MVH) sites.
2. Act as the lead Competent Person (CP)/Skilled Person (SP) for multiple disciplines as per requirements within the Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs).
3. Carry out any statutory planned maintenance inspections which require the relevant training and qualifications. E.g. a Domestic and/or Commercial Gas Safe qualification and an in-date license to carry out the servicing of gas boilers; or a Competent Person (CP)/Authorised Person (AP) qualification and successful completion of assessment by the relevant Authorised Engineer (AE).
4. Carry out regular and timely integrity checks and audits of plant rooms, all maintenance service functions, systems and processes to ensure that the service complies to statutory directives, Health and Safety and COSHH, UK legislation and local policies and procedures so as to ensure the continued safety of the organisations staff, patients, visitors and contractors
Main duties of the job
· To attend, investigate, and resolve any urgent/high-priority reactive maintenance (mechanical and electrical) issues within Trust’s Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the assistance of the in-house Estates Maintenance Workforce. If the issue cannot be resolved within this period, then it must be “made safe” and escalated to the Estates Maintenance Manager and/or applicable Estates Officer.
· To maintain strong communication with the Estates Maintenance Manager, Estates Officers, Estates Maintenance Supervisors and Senior Estates Managers via emails, phone calls and meetings to provide updates and a thoroughly planned solution for any necessary further remedial works following the investigation of an urgent issue which cannot be resolved there and then.
· To act as the lead Competent Person (CP)/Skilled Person (SP) and deputy to the formally appointed Authorised Person (AP)/Responsible Person (RP) in relation to specific maintenance responsibilities e.g. medical gases, steam equipment, water quality, ventilation, electrical, mechanical and pressure systems.

Essential criteria
- NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance or Equivalent NVQ/Diploma in Engineering
- City and Guilds accredited Engineering qualifications
- Approved multi-skills training in maintenance trades
- Domestic Gas Safe License
- A post apprenticeship experience.
- Good understanding of Building Services Engineering systems
- Experience across mechanical, plumbing and building trades
- Competent with using the Building Management Systems (BMS) for fault finding and energy efficiency.
- Experience in working with steam systems (E.g. steam boilers)
- Specialist Engineering knowledge acquired through courses & experience, or equivalent.
- Specialist knowledge underpinned by theoretical knowledge.
Desirable criteria
- HNC/HND in Engineering or Building related subjects, plus specialist knowledge acquired through.
- Competent/Authorised person MGPS (HTM 02)
- Competent/Authorised person HVAC (HTM 03)
