Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trust as a US Modality Lead Sonographer. The post will be based at both our Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites. You will be responsible for leading the Ultrasound department and will be required to manage the day-to-day running of the department in their absence. 

The successful candidate will have considerable experience in obstetric, general medical and gynaecology ultrasound. You will also have a proven track record of teaching and mentoring students. The post holder will also have a clinical workload, be able to carry out lists at an advanced practitioner level, and make clinical judgements based on assessing and interpreting ultrasound findings, some of which may be highly complex. 

An interview date is yet to be confirmed. 

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the management and day-to day running of the specialised services pertaining to the unit.
  • To ensure diagnostic targets for the ultrasound service are met.
  • To be responsible for the management and development of the specialist service ensuring optimum use of staffing and equipment resources within the modalities.
  • To  lead and participate in the clinical audit & clinical governance programmes.
  • To be responsible for scanning patients and producing independent reports of these scans including high risk obstetric and gynaecological patients.
  • To take an active role in teaching & practical training of student sonographers, specialist registrars & others in training. 
  • To be responsible for the professional leadership and training of the team, providing a high quality patient focused service.
  • To be responsible for sonographer & support staff rota management and liaising with the radiology admin lead and maternity admin team to ensure adequate capacity to meet the demand.
  • To ensure maintenance of equipment and a safe working environment.
  • To provide a service across all sites
