Job overview
Job Purpose
· To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality clinical services within the context of a clinical governance framework
· To establish good relationships with and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, taking responsibility for the care of patients with Sexual Health and contraception needs, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment for the individual patient group.
· To ensure that all activities in the area are carried out within CLCH Directorate policy/National guidelines.
· To act as a professional role model, leading and developing clinical practice and to support and deputise for the Team Lead.
· To supervise, teach & assess registered and unregistered staff including HCA’s.

Main duties of the job
- Hold DFSRH or willing to train towards
- Competent in fitting and removing SDI’s or willing to train towards
- To be competent in pre and post HIV discussion.
- Recognising signs and symptoms of STI’s
- To manage a range of symptomatic and asymptomatic female and male cases including discharge, genital ulceration and genital warts.
- Asymptomatic and symptomatic screening of male and female patients.
- All current forms of HPV treatment
- Microscopy and making provisional STI diagnoses.
- Venepuncture
- Point of care testing for blood borne viruses
- Treating named infections and administering contraception using Patient Group Directions (PGD’s) or working towards completing Non-Medical Prescribing

Both verbal and written communication skills, and experience of team working will be essential to the role. Strong interpersonal skills will also be essential. You must be an NMC registered, UK based nurse to apply for this role, as it is 'zero-hours' it does not attract visa sponsorship. You must also have at least 6 months acute experience.

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse (Adult)
- Recognised contraception//sexual health qualification eg STIF Foundation
- Evidence of recent professional development
- Recognised mentorship and preceptorship or willingness to undertake.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant BSc or willingness to work towards
- Letter of Competence in fitting and removing implants
- To hold a non -medical prescriber qualification or be willing to undertake
Experiecne
Essential criteria
- Substantive experience working within a level 3 sexual health service.
- Be proficient in the testing, treatment and management of patients with sexually transmitted infections (STI’s), screening for HIV and other blood borne viruses and delivering PrEP
- Experience of managing/co-ordinating teamwork
Desirable criteria
- Experience in gynaecology, HIV care, counselling, outreach or other experience relating to the speciality.
- Line management experience
- Evidence of utilising clinical supervision
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to work under Patient Group Directives (PGDs)Able to meet the required IT skills for the post. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and is competent in use of IT/computer literacy skills.
- Has a clear understanding of implementing quality standards in nursing care.
- Has a comprehensive understanding of Fraser guidelines in relation to consent for medical advice and treatment.
- Awareness and knowledge of own professional accountability and autonomous practice
Desirable criteria
- Competent in undertaking bi manual/testicular examinations or willing to learn.
- Knowledge of PEPSE, PREP, HIV and related issues
- Experience in dealing with difficult situations.
