Job overview

Community Psychiatric Nurse

Waltham Forest Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurse to join a friendly, motivated team working with young people within our neurodevelopmental pathway.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a genuine interest and experience of working with young people in a community setting. They will also need to be able to demonstrate an ability to contribute to the evidence based assessment and treatment offered within the service.

If you are an overseas qualified nurse and wanting to start your journey to becoming a UK based registered nurse with the NMC, you can check whether you are eligible to be supported through our Capital Nurse consortium.  Please visit; https://www.capitalnurselondon.co.uk/how-to-apply/. Whilst NELFT is happy to welcome overseas nurses we are unable to consider your application directly.  You should submit your interest and apply through the Capital Nurse London group.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the assessment of young people within our neurodevelopmental assessment clinic. This will include completing a detailed developmental history with parents and carers, completing face to face assessments of young people suspected to be presenting with signs of Autism and/or ADHD, and providing feedback and advice/signposting following the assessment. They  will be responsible for documenting their observations within an assessment report and providing supporting evidence to the professional network, for example to support application and review of Education and Health Care Plans.

Additional training would be provided to ensure that the post holder has the skills required to fulfil the requirements of the post.

The post holder will also work as part of a duty rota to respond to queries and concerns for young people who are open to the service, including completing an assessment of mental health need and risk, and discussing with the wider team to agree a plan of care.

The post holder will be expected to manage their own caseload, working in an evidenced based and time limited way, including use of outcome monitoring to measure progress and client satisfaction. Interventions may involve working individually with service users and their carers, but also providing interventions to families and groups as required.
