This is an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Occupational Therapist
Redbridge Integrated Care Directorate invites applications for the post of Band 6 Community Occupational Therapist/Care coordinator within the Redbridge Mental Health and Wellness Team (MHWT) - South
NELFT has launched the mental health transformation programme. In February 2023 Redbridge completed the final stage of mental health transformation to become three Mental Health and Wellness Teams. Our integrated teams provide assessment, brief intervention, and
recovery services to clients in Redbridge.
The team consisting of Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers, Psychiatrists, IPS worker, Peer support workers, STR workers, and
Psychologists.

The post holder will join a team of Occupational Therapists to provide specialist functional assessments. This will include assessments of daily
living skills using the Model of Human Occupational assessment tools to ascertain level of functional ability, related risk factors, level of support,
and accommodation needs in order to implement community care plans, provide adaptive equipment and maintain a high standard of service user
care.

Main duties of the job


> You will have the opportunity to jointly lead and support in the facilitation and delivery of group programmes alongside other OT staff, Support Time Recovery Workers, and Peer Support Workers.

> You would also have the opportunity to collaboratively work with the IPS employment workers to support service users with their employment
goals.
> The service offers the opportunity to undertake mental health assessments, keywork and, to care coordinate clients in accordance with Care programme Approach (CPA) policy.
> Undertake comprehensive assessment of health and social needs together with the service users implement a plan of care and intervention to meet these needs, ensuring regular reviews are in place for evaluation of the care plan.
> To ensure carers and family are included and supported and in care planning.
> To facilitate and implement the Trust and Local Authority requirements in relation to safeguarding children and guidance legislation within the
Care Act 2014. To adhere to the requirements of the Safeguarding Adults policy.

 

Working for our organisation

Starting with NELFT  

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex. 

Probationary Period 

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

 High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436) pro rata for part time staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Accept a role with protected OT work.
• Undertake comprehensive OT assessments and intervention.
• Promote recovery, social inclusion, relapse prevention, holistic health, and wellbeing.
• Facilitate and provide group interventions.
• Want to make personalised care a reality.
• Promote and actively enable co-production in service delivery.
• Work as part of an integrated team ensuring regular evaluation of individual care and recovery plans.
• Undertake generic mental health assessments.
• Further develop your leadership skills.
In line with our aim to promote recovery, the successful Occupational Therapist will receive protected OT specific work; with half the
caseload consisting of dedicated OT specific work and half caseload as an OT care coordinator.
Occupational Therapy has a key role to play within the team, taking the lead on promoting a recovery focused culture and maintaining a strong
network with other statutory and non-statutory services to enable improved social inclusion outcomes for service users.
The teams operational working hours is Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm although some flexibility may be needed, and a car driver would be
desirable but not essential for the role.
The post is full time, offering excellent opportunities to develop individual professional interests.
We are a supportive team, and the post holder would have support from the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist, Team manager, Redbridge
Lead Occupational Therapist, and would be invited to attend the Occupational Therapy mental health network in the borough that meets regularly to provide peer support.
Quality Improvement is promoted and there are opportunities for participating and leading on service development projects.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified /registered Occupational therapist
  • Evidence of post-registration Training /qualification and continued CPD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have proven and significant experience of working with people with complex, acute mental health needs
  • To have experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating aspects of care.
  • To have significant experience as a caseworker and CPA Care Co-ordinator.
  • Experience of using MOHO and OT ADL assessments and Groups work
  • To have significant experience working with families and carers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing staff supervision and appraisal
  • Experience of working within integrated services

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of government legislation and policy guidance pertaining to Mental Health e.g. Mental health act, care act, mental capacity
  • To demonstrate knowledge and competency of the Mental Health Act 1983 related legislation and is applications
  • To have a working knowledge of the requirements of specific OT assessment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Adult Safeguarding policy and procedures
  • Be knowledgeable, demonstrate competency and work within the safeguarding children framework on best practice with particular regard to the voice of the child and the London Child protection procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Redbridge locality area and ability to navigate self around the area

Skills

  • Ability to assess, plan and implement programmes of care with Service User and Carers involvement
  • Clinical risk assessment and management skills
  • Ability to make complex decisions under pressure and demonstrate stress and crisis management skills
  • Effective and well-developed interpersonal skills especially when handling conflict and change.
