ACP Assistant Parent-Infant Psychotherapist

CNWL Parent-Infant Mental Health Service (PIMHS) is an exciting new service being developed in Brent. We are looking for an Assistant Psychotherapist to join this new team. The post-holder will be based in Brent CAMHS and will have clinics in the community and in Family Hubs across Brent.
In line with the Start 4 Life Programme, the service will offer support to infants in the first two years of life with mild, moderate or severe mental and emotional health needs, and their mothers in the first two years postpartum; who have mild to moderate mental health concerns past or present, risking the mother-infant relationship. This service also extends to fathers, co-parents and the overall familial relationship with the infant, with the infant remaining the focus of the work.
The service will be delivered by a MDT consisting of a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, a Lead Parent-Infant Psychotherapist, two Parent-Infant Psychotherapists, and an Assistant Psychotherapist.

- The post-holder will work under supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high-quality; brief psychodynamically-informed, outcome focused interventions for PIMHS.
- To work with the multi-disciplinary team maintaining excellent working relationships with other professional and voluntary workers and significant others.
- To represent the service as appropriate at meetings, case conferences and to liaise with other agencies.
- To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the PIMHS across all sectors of care. To support clinicians and clinical systems, do ROMS etc
- To support the provision of psychological assessment and intervention under supervision
- In addition the post holder would support the development and delivery of a wide range of supportive interventions to enable infants and their mothers/carers referred to the service to improve the quality of parent-infant relationships.
- The post holder will be required to be creative, flexible, adaptable, professional and motivated in all aspects of their role, both in clinical delivery and within the development of the service provision.
- The post-holder will be involved in elements of participation in the PIMHS and respective borough.
- The post-holder will work with infants, their mothers and families within PIMHS with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

This post necessitates working directly and indirectly with women who have vulnerable infants and are experiencing complex and severe mental health difficulties. Some clients/patients may be difficult to engage and their behaviour may significantly challenge the integrity and welfare of the post holder. The post also necessitates the post holder to travel regularly across Brent and when necessary, to local community amenities or independent sector establishments often transporting test materials, audio-visual and IT equipment.

- To be involved in supporting initial assessments alongside PIMHS clinicians.
- Under supervision to plan, develop and deliver programmes designed to support and complement the work of PIMHS practitioners in order to facilitate educational, social and emotional needs of infants and their mothers/carers as part of the overall PIMHS treatment plan.
- To support delivery of outcome focused brief psychodynamically-informed Goal Based individual and group interventions as needed to infants and their mothers/carers experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
- To work independently according to a plan agreed with supervisor and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
- To assist in clinically related administration, ROMS, QI project, collection of statistics, taking notes and organising agendas and minutes of team meetings, assisting with managing waiting lists, liaising with external agencies, signposting referrals, assisting in development of audit and/or research projects and teaching and project work.
- To deliver on Trust priorities in line with participation, which will require active engagement within the service and Trust.

Training & Qualifications

- Enrolled, or planning to be enrolled in Masters ACP regulated Child and Adolescent pre-clinical training programme course seminars (M7, Tavistock Clinic, and other ACP accredited Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy pre-clinical programmes, pre-requisite for ACP Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists in doctoral training).
- Evidence of ability to study successfully at Masters level or equivalent

- Previous professional training in nursing, social work, education, occupational therapy, counselling or training within a specific psychological therapy
- Other undergraduate or postgraduate degree
Experience

- Evidence of working with infants and their mothers/carers and families with mental health difficulties in mental health or related services

- Worked in a service where agreed targets in place to demonstrating outcomes
- Ability to manage own caseload and time
