A position has just become available in our Adult Community SLT service in Brent for a full time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant on a permanent basis.
We are a dynamic and welcoming team of SLTs, focused on providing high standard patient-centred care with emphasis on continuing service development and personal development.
Our team are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and resourceful Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to support our SLT Team in Brent.
The right candidate will be interested in working with clients with communication and swallowing difficulties due to neurological conditions and passionate about supporting these clients to reach their goals by implementing therapy plans prescribed by the therapists.
Provision of administration support for the team is an additional aspect of the role.
We need an excellent communicator who can adapt their communication to each client’s needs. Ideally you would have relevant work or voluntary experience with this client group, or with other people with communication impairments. You would need to be an adaptable team member who can prioritise tasks effectively and flexibly.
This is a split role between the community and the inpatient SLT teams.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
- To undertake specific skilled Speech & Language Therapy support work to promote the rehabilitation of patients.
- To treat patients according to specific treatment protocols e.g. repetitive task specific training, monitoring patient progression, making minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required.
- To work without direct supervision within the Speech and Language Therapy team, undertaking tasks delegated by a qualified therapist.
- To continually monitor and report changes in the patient’s presentation and to report back patient progress and inform therapist of any concerns.
- To maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation.
- To provide administrative support to the SLT team.

- NVQ level III or experience working in a therapy setting is desirable, e.g. as a Therapy Assistant, Health Care Assistant, however other relevant experience of this population will be considered including voluntary work
Experience

- Able to demonstrate an understanding of communication facilitation skills
- Understanding of the roles of the members of the multidisciplinary team
- To carry out basic therapeutic interventions as delegated by a qualified member of staff.
- Understanding of the post and its duties
- Understanding of the need to adhere to policies and procedures
- Basic understanding of professional standards
- Basic knowledge and understanding of communication disorders
- Experience of using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
Skills & Knowledge

- Ability to present information, written and orally, in English in a clear concise manner
- Able to keep legible and accurate patient information and records in English
- Able to communicate effectively with colleagues and members of the public with sensitivity and empathy.

- To be able to instruct patients and carers on a range of therapeutic activities
- To be computer literate and able to carry out basic administration tasks on computer and create therapy resources.
