Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for motivated sonographers with excellent teaching, research, audit and communication skills to Join our busy and friendly team of sonographers at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust to meet the growing demands of the service. The practice educator role is to provide high quality ultrasound service, actively take part and promote teaching, learning, research, audit and exploring new ways of teaching and development in field of ultrasound.
The department provides a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including obstetrics, Gynae, Early pregnancy, General, MSK, small parts, necks and DVT with independent reporting in a department that is equipped with the latest equipment platforms and advanced ultrasound simulator equipment.
There is an opportunity for job sharing, flexible working and extended days to suit a range of work life balance requirements. The department supports CPD, audit and research and holds regular clinical meetings and clinical governance meetings
Candidates must hold PGC / PGD / DMU or equivalent and be state registered with the HCPC /NMC.
Please note you will be required to attend a face to face interview as you will need to complete an assessment. Provisional interview date to be confirmed.
Main duties of the job
- Perform high quality ultrasound examinations using analytical and judgement skills to interpret complex images.
- Formulate comprehensive, diagnostic, independently written reports for each examination
- Actively engage and participate in teaching students, sonographers and clinicians in the field of ultrasound.
- Actively take part in research, audit and exploring new ways of teaching and development in field of ultrasound.
- Communicate distressing and unwelcome/unexpected news directly to patients using tact, empathy and diplomacy.
- Communicate complex information regarding diagnosis/treatment directly to clinicians and patients.
- Maintain personal clinical expertise in ultrasound scanning including ongoing CPD
- Review, update and maintain the patients clinical records.
- Participate in the vetting of ultrasound requests.
- Deal with conflicting demands from different staff groups at all levels.
- Have flexible approach to work and ability to work under pressure of high workloads.
- Perform managerial tasks within the ultrasound department

Essential criteria
- Post Graduate Diploma In Medical Ultrasound (General Ultrasound and Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound)
Desirable criteria
- MSc In Medical Ultrasound or PGC in MSK Ultrasound
Registration
Essential criteria
- HCPC Registered or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Two years post graduate experience
- Previous Teaching/Mentoring Experience
Desirable criteria
- University Teaching Experience
- Experience of publications in Journals
- Presentation in annual meetings such BMUS
