This post is not a clinical post, but aimed at people with lived experience – experts by experience.

This innovative post focuses on the need to bring strong leadership around the participation of people with lived mental health issues who use East London NHS Foundation Trust services and their carers, in all aspects of both planning and delivery of mental health services.

The ideal candidate will work hard to promote improved outcomes for service users and improve service users' and carers' experiences through new insights and perspectives. This will consist of involvement in recruitment, training, auditing, and improving services.

Main duties of the job

The ideal post holder will work strategically across the locality to develop and implement a strategy that supports the broad participation agenda.  They will project manage a variety of work streams that underpin the locality participation agenda, ensuring that practice in the locality is coordinated and supports and responds to the Trust’s corporate social inclusion strategies. They will work closely with relevant Borough Management teams to ensure a consistent approach across the directorate and will hold the Directorate and all its staff to account for People Participation activity.

They will provide strong leadership, advice, and practical project work across the locality in the development of a culture that is socially inclusive, values participation and diversity. Supporting and maintaining effective communication, contributing to the training needs of staff in this aspect of their work. The post holder will need to develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and act as a bridge between service users and staff positively.

This is a senior role with line management responsibilities of at least two People Participation staff members. This number may change as projects and services develop.  As a senior member of the directorate, you will have a key role in delivering the People Participation Strategy and Hackneys Action Plan.
