Specialist Perinatal Service Community Nursery Nurse

The Specialist Perinatal Service (SPS) Community Nursery Nurse will hold a key role in providing expert child assessments, interventions, and ongoing support for families and infants under one year old, who are under the care of the Specialist Perinatal Service within the community.

The SPS  supports women and birthing people who experience high-risk mental health problems during and after pregnancy, and for their infant up to the age of one year.

This post is based in 'Cluster 3' which  geographically covers Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside, and a part of Central Manchester. Travel is essential. The Cluster 3 base is at Hexagon Tower in North Manchester.

As a SPS Community Nursery Nurse you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team collaborating with many professionals and organisation to provide high quality care to families across Greater Manchester including:

  • Child and Family Social Workers,
  • Health visitors,
  • Midwives
  • Parent-Infant Mental Health specialists

Key elements of this role include:

  • Liaising with VCSE organisations that support families in the community
  • Supporting women and their infants to attend community groups
  • Develop and facilitate therapeutic group actives (i.e., baby massage, rhyme, and sign)
  • Deliver packages of care in collaboration with families as part of an individualised baby care plan.
  • Recognising vulnerable babies and supporting their families with targeted interventions.

 

You will need to be motivated to work in an environment of change and innovation, supporting the team to develop a new role within the service. Have a good understanding of the signs of abuse and neglect and a knowledge of safeguarding in line with policies and procedures.

This role will require you to be flexible, although you will be allocated an area to work there is an expectation you will be willing to work across the greater Manchester footprint in a variety of settings, both clinically and within the home environment.

You will need to be able to effectively priorities and organise your own diary in line with autonomous practice, prioritising work appropriately.
