Job overview

The Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service has an opportunity for an experienced nurse with an interest in diabetes to join our team. You should have a desire to enhance  your knowledge and skills in diabetes within an inpatient setting.  

We require a motivated and enthusiastic nurse with excellent communication and leadership skills to supplement our team. We will provide support, training and guidance to enhance your skills within the role of a Diabetes Specialist Nurse.

Main duties of the job

Assess, plan and implement treatment plans for people with diabetes whilst an inpatient. Contribute to the organisation and delivery of specialist education and training to other health care professionals, carers on all aspects of diabetes management. To have the ability to work autonomously in the provision of a specialist, evidence based and high quality service for people with diabetes. and with the support of nursing and medical colleagues.

You will work closely with the Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialist’s and other multidisciplinary team members, playing an important role in the delivery of effective care and management of inpatients with diabetes.  

You must be able to work autonomously, organise your workload effectively and adapt to, as well as drive change at a local level.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. Registration and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
  • First level degree
  • Post basic qualification in diabetes or equivalent portfolio of evidence
  • Recognised teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Non-Medical prescribing or willingness to undertake

Skill and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in the field of diabetes and good clinical knowledge
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in the mentorship of nurses
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, evidence of development of own skill and knowledge
