Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to make a substantive whole time appointment to this newly established post with Bury Mental Health Services. This post will cover a sector of the Bury area. The post has been created due to the current consultant moving to another job in the trust.

The Bury general adult psychiatry service (generally for people aged 16 to 64) has been run since 2008 according to a model whereby our team of consultants are deployed as follows:  Three consultants work exclusively in the community and outpatient focus areas, one working with the Early Intervention Service,  and two inpatient area including Home Treatment and two A&E Liaison Team. Also one consultant in Living Well.

Within this arrangement, the consultant appointed to this post will work with other sector consultants (East, West and South sector community outpatients).

Bury has a very strong teaching commitment and candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical and nursing staff.

Patients will be seen in community clinics, at their own homes or in other clinical settings according to clinical need.

Medical Degree

Essential

  • MBChB or equivalent

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.

GMC registration

  • Full registration with GMC

Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Specialisr register

Essential

  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.

AC status

  • Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

S12 approval

  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Knowledge in psychiatry

  • Excellent knowledge in adult psychiatry including knowledge and experience of a range of conditions and complex psychological problems

Essential criteria
  • MBChB or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Possession of MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Other postgraduate degrees e.g. MSc, MD, MRCP etc

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible to be on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Higher psychiatric training or its equivalent
  • Section 12 (2) Approval under Mental Health Act 1983 or be eligible for approval. Approved Clinician status (or eligible for same)
Desirable criteria
  • Possession of CCT or be within 6 months of achieving this
  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Experience in detention of patients under The MHA (1983)
  • Experience of writing reports for the Mental Health Review Tribunals.

Academic skills and lifelong learning

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of teaching and training abilities.
  • Commitment to share the work of the department with colleagues, to develop and improve the service as a whole, and to the organisational philosophy
  • Registered for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Good communication skills
  • Evidence of audit activity
  • Available to participate in on-call rota
Desirable criteria
  • Current or past educational supervisor of a basic trainee and a specialist registrar
  • Evidence of leading the development of services elsewhere.
  • An interest in management and service development
  • In ‘Good professional standing for CPD
  • Enthusiasm, demonstration of initiative and innovation.
  • Published audit and published research
