Specialist Clinical Physiologist – Respiratory / Sleep

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic well motivated individual to work within the respiratory and sleep physiology team at North Manchester General Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a rapidly growing service and we require an individual with the drive and ambition to move the service forward within the evolving field of respiratory and sleep medicine, providing high standards of patient care in keeping with trust values.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Plan, perform, interpret, and provide reports on a wide range of Respiratory and Sleep physiological investigations to patients of all age groups, without supervision, employing current standards. 

Initiate CPAP treatment where appropriate and conduct follow-up CPAP compliance reviews, face to face and remote.

Teaching, training and mentoring of students and junior staff.

There may be future need to travel to the subsequent diagnostic hubs in development across the Manchester area.

Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent.
  • ARTP Part 1.
  • RCCP/AHCS or HCPC registration.
Meini prawf dymunol
  • MSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent.

Experience

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Minimum of two years at Band 5.
  • Competent at performing and interpreting, full lung function tests, respiratory muscle tests, capillary blood gases and challenge testing (histamine).
  • Competent at performing, scoring and interpreting home polygraphy sleep studies.
  • Experience of CPAP issue and after care with patients.

  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Teaching, training and assessing experience.
  • Experience with full video polysomnography.
  • Experience in stock control.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives and carers whose cognisance may be limited and where there are barriers to understanding.
  • Able to undertake complex eye-hand co-ordination in the use of diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to keep accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Experience in use of Epic software.

  • Training in highly specialist skills and knowledge within the relevant field.

  • Prepared to work at potential community diagnostic centres (CDC) on a rostered system.
