Job overview

This a new consultant role as GMMH has been successful in winning community substance misuse and homeless service tenders for Greater Manchester resulting in funding for extra consultant sessions.

Main duties of the job

 

  • Provide clinical responsibility and leadership Achieve Salford and RSDA Salford.
  • Diagnose and formulate management plans in complex presentations.
  • Provide management in complex presentations.
  • Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.
  • Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.
  • Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Community Mental Health, Inpatient and Liaison Psychiatrists.
  • It is expected that the division of responsibilities between all consultants will change over time by agreement and in line with service needs and developments.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical policies and guidelines, monitoring and review procedures.
  • Supervise medical and other clinical staff attached to the multidisciplinary teams at Achieve, including staff in Active Case Management Team and Young Persons Team.
  • There will be a protected clinical session for administrative time.
  • Lead Clinical Audit procedures.

The Salford services have about 1,200 patients in treatment and outpatient clinics at each site seeing on average 1 new patient and 4 follow ups per clinic. There will be identified slots for emergency assessment and supervision and support of key workers in

Clinical role

  • Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Community Mental Health, Inpatient and Liaison Psychiatrists.

  • MDT meetings will discuss 10 patients per session on average.

 

Leadership role

 

  • Lead clinical decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality care.
  • Develop service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards.
  • Engage with service transformation programmes including attendance at Consultant meetings for their service and directorate.
  • Close working with network operational managers responsible for the day to day operational management of the services. This is to ensure that there is close joint operational and clinical input into the running of the services. This will require regular meetings and attendance at Service Management Team and regular updates about operational and clinical issues.
  • Advise and contribute to the work of the Achieve and RSDA Commissioning Teams, and other service planning groups.

 

Educational role

 

  • Provide clinical supervision for trainees in gaining specialist psychiatric experience.
  • Provide clinical supervision for psychiatric trainees in achieving competencies in substance misuse psychiatry.
  • Contribution to research and training.
