Job overview
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate, individual to join our to join our friendly and supportive Occupational Therapy team within the Community Learning Disability Service (CALDs).
The CALDS is part of the Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO). You will join a nurturing, experienced citywide team, working alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists and Learning Disability Nurses. We are an integrated team and work closely with our social care colleagues.
We welcome applications from individuals with experience in community working with a desire to support people who have a learning disability. We will support you with specialist and bespoke training to reach your potential and excel in your chosen career path. Experience in supporting people with equipment and adaptation, skill development, and engagement in meaningful occupation is also desirable.
The diversity of presentations of the people we support within our service applicants must have excellent communication and listening skills to provide a service to people with complex health and sensory needs who have varying levels of verbal communication and understanding.
You will receive 1:1 clinical support, development and guidance from our experienced Locality Lead and Occupational Therapy team members. Additional support is provided by the CALDS Health Service Manager and Occupational Therapy professional Lead.
Main duties of the job
Make a proactive difference to people with learning disabilities in Manchester.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary health and social care CALDS to
provide a specialist occupational therapy service to adults with
learning disabilities.
Work as part of a city wide occupational therapy service to provide timely, effective services for people with learning disabilities
Contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of professional and service developments.
Take direction from the locality lead occupational therapist to support the service delivery.

Essential criteria
- G.C.S.E. English Language or equivalent
- Experience of providing support to people in a work, voluntary or personal setting
- Experience of organising and maintaining filing systems and resources.
- Experience of working as part of a team
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Tertiary or Further Education
- Awareness of the role of an Occupational Therapist.
- Some knowledge of adaptive equipment that promotes independence and maintains function in activities of daily living
- Experience of community work.
- Experience of supporting people with disabilities.
