An exciting opportunity has arisen for a enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join GMMH on a fixed term basis as the Safeguarding Lead for our Manchester in-patient sites.

The postholder will be responsible for providing specialist, complex and sensitive advice and guidance to staff in regard to safeguarding adults in line legislation, policies and guidance.

Main duties of the job

As the Safeguarding Lead you will be responsible for supporting our Manchester in-patient sites and ensuring that the Trust carries out its statutory duties with respect to safeguarding adults.

You will be responsible for providing specialist Safeguarding Adult advice, guidance, and direction to staff across Manchester Inpatient services in GMMH. This will include receiving highly complex and sensitive information, interpretation of this information to advice on the best course of action and recommendations for staff, signposting if necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Essential requirements for the post include: Registered practitioner e.g. RMN, Social Work, significant experience of a leadership role in adult safeguarding, highly specialist knowledge and understanding of working with complex family situations, mental health and substance misuse in relation to safeguarding adults, legal literacy in relation to adult safeguarding and the ability to work effectively as part of a team and to recognise and support the needs of others in a sensitive and effective manner.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/Registered Professional (Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Midwife etc.)
  • Master's Degree or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience in specialist area of practice dealing with Adults at risk at a senior level.
  • Significant post registration experience
  • Extended clinical practice underpinned by teaching, supervision and assessment.
  • Research and/or audit experience
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification 998 City and Guilds 730 or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing and leading on highly sensitive and complex safeguarding adult cases.
  • Significant and thorough understanding of the 2014 Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Experience of delivering training to high standard in relation to complex adult safeguarding issues.
  • Experience of evaluation of work /training programs
  • Significant experience of working with service users and carers.
  • Experience of producing high level reports and briefings to senior management, along with recommendations to ensure positive practice is embedded across service areas.
  • Knowledge of mental health, and substance misuse
  • Good understanding and awareness of Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA)
  • Experience of chairing complex safeguarding meetings.
