This is a 12 months fixed-term post. The appointee would be based in the Cardiology Directorate at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester Heart Institute. The role will combine working alongside and supporting Consultant Cardiologists within Cath Labs, Critical Care and ward settings. This post is suitable for either individuals who wish to complete a period of higher training in implantable devices and develop their practical, research and management skills prior to applying for a consultant post .
There is an expectation that the post holder contributes to the middle grade on-call rota.

Please also see job description. The post is based at Wythenshawe Hospital. Wythenshawe Hospital provides tertiary cardiac services to the South Manchester and North Cheshire area and is supported by on-site cardiothoracic surgery and an active cardiac transplant unit. The Cardiology department has five cardiac catheter laboratories.
The post holder will have the opportunity to fulfil an operator role in the device service in the Cath Labs and a device troubleshooting role in outpatients commensurate with the level of the post holder’s experience. There will be a commitment to at least one regular clinic per week. There will also be a specific responsibility for updating and maintaining clinical data in the Devices database as well as auditing the same data.
The device service delivers around 1000 device procedures/year and the successful candidate will work with a team of 6 in-house device implanting cardiologists who perform a wide range of device procedures for a population of 2m. The post-holder can expect to contribute to a substantial proportion of these procedures.
There is an expectation that the postholder will make a significant contribution to the research and audit programme and quality improvement programmes in the department and also to the department’s educational programme .
There is an expectation that the post-holder will contribute to the middle-grade on-call rota.

Person specification
Essential
Essential criteria
- Mb ChB, MRCP or equivalent
- Competent in bradycardia device implantation as sole operator
- 4 years experience in General Cardiology at Middle Grade level
Desirable criteria
- Competent in bi-ventricular device implantation as sole operator
- Accredited in BHRS/EHRA or IBHRE device examinations
