Job overview

The Decontamination Team at Wythenshawe Hospital are looking for an Endoscope Technician. This  position would require someone who is flexible (change of working shift at short notice)

As a band 2 Endoscope Technician, you will be part of a team that provides an important service across the full site at Wythenshawe Hospital.

The skills you will learn will enable you to ensure that patients have safe Endoscope procedures. (Decontaminating at the highest standards)

The Unit has recently been awarded JAG accreditation for the 3rd consecutive year running. This award for is presented for the units excellent standards. 

Main duties of the job

Unit working hours are : in-between 8am-8pm, also may be asked to work some evenings throughout the working week.  

Weekend hours from 8am -6pm  (Saturday and Sunday)

Working 30 hours per week

PLEASE NOTE: You will have no patient contact at any time.

You will provide the care, manual cleaning, decontamination of endoscopes and be able to operate endoscope washers used in the reprocessing cycle, as well as supporting the transfer of endoscopes and accessories across the Wythenshawe site. 


Ideally you will hold valid Endoscope Decontamination certificates, or will have had previous experience of working in a cleaning & decontamination role, although this is not essential. You will have good attention to detail and an eagerness and ability to learn. 

In return we will provide a comprehensive induction programme and you will be appraised every 6 months with a view to developing knowledge and additional skills where appropriate.
Please Note: Full training will be provided in -house until fully competent.

Once fully competent, you will be required to work towards Healthcare Science Assistant Level 2 qualification. The training will take place on the Decontamination Unit within the Unit. 

Always subject to change on appointment as written in contracted working hours.

As a Decontamination Technician you will be a key member of the team that provides a vital service for the reprocessing of all types of Endoscopes for use in all various departments across Wythenshawe hospital such as the Endoscopy, Urology, Bronchoscopy, ENT outpatients clinics and other internal departments which use Endoscopes for patient’s procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To undertake, under the direction and supervision of the Unit Manager, the care and cleaning of endoscopy equipment in the Central Decontamination Unit.
  • To undertake the manual cleaning and process of all different types of Endoscopes from around the trust.
  • Communication both verbal and non-verbal is a key skill required for this role.
  • To provide clerical support as required ensuring the efficient and effective running of the department at all times.
