To lead in the development, organisation and delivery of the Speech and Language Therapy service for Children and Young People with Early Language Development Difficulties / Disorders and / or Speech Difficulties / Disorder in Oldham, with reference to current evidence and best practice. To support staff in their delivery of a quality service to this population. To lead and manage projects and delegate tasks / allocate work to others.

To provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment / discharge service for children and carers / families. To liaise with a wide range of professional and external agencies to ensure efficient, high quality patient care. To work alongside community language speakers to ensure equality of service for populations who do not have English as a first language.

In order to meet local need, there will be a requirement to work flexibly which may involve evenings and weekends.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To lead in the development, organisation and delivery of the Speech and Language Therapy service for Children and Young People with Early Language Development Difficulties and or Speech Sound Disorder in Oldham, with reference to current evidence and best practice. To support staff in their delivery of a quality service to this population. To lead and manage projects and delegate tasks / allocate work to others.

To provide a high level of clinical expertise in managing a caseload of children and young people with complex speech, language and communication difficulties, including those with Early Language and / or Speech Disorders. To develop and implement individualised care plans, based on best practice, which reflect the specialist nature of the intervention required to meet the needs of cases. To develop and communicate appropriate strategies to facilitate the child’s communicative effectiveness, including work in multidisciplinary teams and joint working with trained interpreters and bilingual assistants in languages other than English, overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers to communication and acceptance.

 To provide leadership and support to junior members of the team including supervision, second opinions, shadowing, mentoring as well as contributing to clinical excellence networks and peer audit. To be responsible for and continuing own and other’s professional development and learning, accessing supervision and being aware of learning needs and service needs.

Qualifications

  • • Successful completion of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists recognised training course (degree or equivalent).
  • • Post-graduate qualification and experience to masters level.
  • • CPD records of working with Early Language Development and / or Speech Disorders in children / young people and supporting others with this caseload.

  • • Member of relevant Clinical Excellence Network (CEN)
  • • Masters Degree

Professional Registration

  • • Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice

Knowledge, Training & Experience

  • • Knowledge of a range of disorders, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and their management appropriate to the post.
  • • Expertise in detailed analysis of assessment and / or diagnostic procedures, and established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • • Evidence of knowledge of Early Language and / or Speech Disorder to comply with RCSLT guidelines / advice / complexities.
  • • Knowledge of working with a bilingual caseload.
  • • Good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance including quality, audit and risk management.

  • • Research & development awareness & / or experience.
  • • Audit experience of own & others practice.
  • • Contribution to service & staff development.
  • • Previous experience undertaking a senior clinical role.

  • • Proven organisational skills including time management, effective delegation & prioritisation, and the ability to complete a task.
  • • Self-motivated and able to lead and motivate others within a team.
