Main duties of the job

Provide a comprehensive maintenance service to the laundry in a multi-disciplined environment, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities

Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.

To liaise and work with other disciplines including external contractors.

Participate fully in the Labour Management Scheme completing all required documentation and providing all relevant information.

 Interpret engineering drawings and instruct and advise others.

 Must be able to work efficiently with minimum supervision.

At all times to carry Trust communication devices to facilitate immediate response to emergencies.

Provide recall to ensure that emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to as a when required. 

Maintenance Responsibilities

 Diagnose and repair faults on non complex electrical & mechanical services and equipment, deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.

 Assemble and install non complex electrical and mechanical services and equipment as required.

 Carry out installation, repairs and planned preventative maintenance on all aspects of non complex electrical and mechanical services and equipment.

 Carry out statutory inspections with in the laundry systems and assist with specific required testing including completing all necessary documentation.

 Undertake non-complex tasks including fault finding.

 Assist in the installation of heavy electrical and mechanical services and equipment using lifting equipment in compliance with Trust policies.

 Use own initiative, knowledge and experience when installing all aspects of non complex electrical and mechanical services and equipment in accordance with current guidance and legislation.

Participate in the department’s Equipment Release and Permit to Work Systems.

Drive Trust vehicles as and when required.

 Assemble and erect mobile and aluminium scaffolding towers as required.

 Undertake Performance Monitoring

 Assist in the monitoring and efficient running of electrical and mechanical services and equipment.

 Must be able to achieve acceptable standards of workmanship and productivity.

 Report performance issues relating to electrical and mechanical services and equipment to the appropriate maintenance engineers and Operations Manager.

 Health and Safety Responsibilities

 Assist in the investigation of accidents and dangerous occurrences within the department.

 Carry out all work in accordance with the department’s generic Risk Assessments and non-generic Risk Assessments as and when required.

 Use all relevant tools, machinery and equipment to comply with current Health & Safety Legislation.  Fully understand all relevant general Health & Safety issues appertaining to the relevant discipline.

 To work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.

 Training

 Train and instruct other staff and new starters as and when required.

To attend NHS and Manufacturers’ training establishments as necessary.

Provide training, technical advice and support to Trust employees.
