Job overview

The post holder will be based exclusively on the Neonatal Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital. This is a large Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with 9 Intensive Care cots, 9 High Dependency cots and 19 Special Care cots providing the full spectrum of medical neonatal care including High Frequency Oscillation, inhaled Nitric Oxide and Therapeutic Hypothermia. The new state of the art Unit is located in the purpose-built Women and Children’s Building. The Unit is led by a dedicated team of experienced Consultant Neonatologists.

The post-holder will work as part of a full shift tier two registrar rota, exclusively within the Neonatal Unit.

Main duties of the job

Neonatal Cardiology and Haemodynamics training:

The unit has an excellent level of expertise in echocardiography with few of the consultants having undergone echocardiography training including EACVI certification. We have been running a successful in- house training in Neonatal Cardiology and haemodynamics. This structured weekly training is delivered over six months with two candidates enrolled for each cycle. The post holder will be given opportunity to enrol for this cardiology training and learn echocardiography and will be encouraged to avail himself/herself of the following learning opportunities:

  • Attendance on dedicated lecture sessions on Neohaemodynamics
  • Regular hands-on echo training on the neonatal unit
  • Review of echocardiograms performed by the post holder
  • Maintenance of a logbook for ECHO training and regular assessments.

  • Primary medical qualification (e.g., MBChB, MBBS)
  • Proven ability to take clinical history and undertake examination
  • Full registration with General Medical Council and a valid Licence to practise with the General medical council
