Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team and work within the paediatric dysphagia service.

This post provides an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical leadership skills and develop the paediatric dysphagia team in Bury Children's community services

 

Main duties of the job

Clinical Lead for our small dedicated dysphagia team.

Assessment and management of swallowing and communication difficulties in children in community clinic, patients' homes and special schools across Bury.

Provide support and supervision for your team.

Develop and provide knowledge and skills in evidence based practice, provide advice / training to other professionals and Carers.

Demonstrate knowledge of / adherence to professional, national and local clinical guidelines, policies, procedures and clinical governance.Compliance with continuous professional development  to maintain registration with RCSLT and HCPC, identify personal learning and development objectives through line management and performance review framework, access clinical and safeguarding supervision in compliance with local policy.

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registered
  • Member of RCSLT

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in SLT
  • Minimum 3 years paediatric dysphagia experience
  • MSc or advanced dysphagia qualification or equivalent or demonstrates commitment to work towards this level
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of basic leadership courses e.g. LEO

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with children / babies who require complex dysphagia management
  • Experience of working with people with complex needs within an MDT
  • Experience of working with people with complex needs within an MDT
  • Evidence of completion of neonatal competency framework (RCSLT)
  • Experience and confidence training others and supporting less experienced staff and students
  • In depth anatomical and physiological knowledge of the swallow
  • Knowledge of national policies / guidelines / drivers relevant to dysphagia
  • Highly specialist theoretical knowledge of communication and swallowing impairments relevant to this client group
  • Specialist knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to paediatric dysphagia
  • In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group) and an ability to compare and contrast relevant benefits
  • Understanding the roles of other professionals relevant to the client group
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance / audit / quality improvement
  • Well-developed analytical, reflection, prioritisation, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to assume leadership responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, observation, listening and empathy skills
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of completion of HEE Neonatal training
  • Evidence of completion of neonatal competency framework (RCSLT)
