Ophthalmic Staff Nurse

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and development, implementation and evaluation of care, both for a specific group of patients and supporting the care of all patients.

As a nurse you will assist in the management and organisation of work as required, ensuring effective communication is always maintained, providing support for junior staff.

You will play a key role in the supervision and assessment of all learners and unregistered staff, providing a teaching role and acting as a named supervisor.

This is a very busy outpatient area in which the individual will need to be prepared for long periods of time on their feet.

  • You will assist in the management and organisation of work, as required over 7 day working week, ensuring effective communication is always maintained and will provide support for junior staff on the department  (newly qualified staff will receive initial support)
  • You will play a key role in the education, development, mentorship and supervision and assessment of all learners and unregistered staff
  • You will undertake nursing interventions consistent with evidence-based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients’ needs
  • Be able to work collaboratively with all members of the MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) and to make referrals as appropriate
  • To utilise highly developed clinical skills specific to speciality
  • You will practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal framework for nursing

Staff Nurse able to work within a large and busy out-patient setting and satellite clinics within another location.

Running Clinics, with Allied Health Professionals and Clinicians over a seven day period. Some of which clinics will be completely Nurse-Led.

Maintain Nursing Registration as well as Mandatory Training for themselves and Junior Staff Members.

Manage the workload for themselves and the team, think on their feet as issues arise to resolve and maintain clinic numbers.

Computer literate, possess spoken and written communication skills to enable them to complete documentation and communicate with patients.

Venepuncture and Cannulation desirable but not essential as training can be provided.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely.
