Staff Nurse - Heart Care Unit
Band 5
Job overview
The Heart care unit is a 19 bedded Cardiology unit with 10 monitored beds and 9 cardiology step down beds with the ability to telemetry monitor 12 patients at a time.
The Heart care unit provides care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute cardiac conditions such as Heart attacks, NSTEMI, cardiac arrhythmias and Heart Failure.
The Heart care unit also undertakes a number of cardiology procedures including the insertion of permanent pacemakers, loop recorders, Transoesophageal Echos (TOEs) and Dobutamine Stress Echos (DSE) along with other emergency procedures, these procedures all take place within the unit and all staff members would be involved in supporting these procedures.
We have also started to undertake Cardiac MR scans and we will eventually be the primary centre for the whole of the Northern Care Alliance so this will require staff to rotate to support this procedure as well.
Main duties of the job
You will be a Qualified Nurse with experience in a acute setting with an interest in cardiology. You will also be able to demonstrate high standards of care which is achieved through evidence based practice.
Some Cardiology experience would be desirable but not essential as you will be supported to develop your skills through our in-house cardiology competencies and study days which are supported by our own Cardiology Consultants and ACPs, you will also be supported by the wards band 6s and ward manager.
All members of staff would also be offered the opportunity to undertake the Advanced Life Support course (ALS) as part of your continued development and to provide you with the shills to manage emergency situations.
You must be able to work as a team member and as an independent practitioner, adhering to the NMC code of conduct. Good communication skills are also essential.
The post will also provide an excellent opportunity to further develop your leadership and managerial skills and you will be supported by the ward manager in both professional and educational development along with clinical audits.
The expectation is that you will be able to undertake the complete 24 hour rotational shifts from days to nights though flexible working patterns can be offered.
