An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychologist to join the bariatric and weight management psychology service, working as part of the Clinical Health Psychology Service at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an individual with substantial post-qualification experience of working within a physical health setting, who can provide leadership and supervision to the psychology team, as well as confidently manage the clinical demands that flow through a busy clinical service. 

We are looking for a Practitioner Psychologist with a proven track record of delivering high quality psychological interventions in physical health settings

Main duties of the job

The postholder will:

  • Support the Consultant Counselling Psychologist to provide senior leadership, supervision and support for the members of the Weight management/Bariatric psychology team.
  • Support the Consultant Lead Counselling Psychologist to assess referrals which come into the service and provide expert guidance to referrers.
  • Provide line management and specialist clinical supervision to psychologists, psychological therapists, assistant psychologists and trainee practitioner psychologists on placement.
  • Developing links with the specialist nurses, members of the medical team, relevant special interest groups and third sector agencies.
  • To contribute to service design and the development of clinical pathways and development of business cases to maintain capacity for the  service, in consultation with the service lead.
  • Provide specialist assessment and treatment recommendations for individuals accessing the service. Service users may have diverse and complex health comorbidities and comorbid mental health problems .
  • Within the role the post holder will be expected to manage referrals from multiple sources, maintain outpatient waiting lists, and take autonomous management of their own caseload.
  • To take part in audit and research.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current and valid Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
  • Professional Doctorate qualification in Clinical/ Counselling/Health Psychology
Desirable criteria
  • Training in 3rd wave psychological therapies
  • Further training in supervision of psychological therapies

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with patients with severe and enduring mental health problems.
  • Substantial post-qualification experience of working as a practitioner psychologist. (1 point per year of post-qualification work up to a total of 5 points.)
  • Experience of working with patients with physical health problems.
  • Experience of developing and delivering psycho-educational groups.
  • Experience of assessing and working with patients with eating disorders.
