Senior Technical Support Engineer - Mechanical

The Medical Device Service support users of medical equipment across all of our hospital sites within the Northern Care Alliance. 

Main duties:

You will have a key role in supporting the departments responsibility for the maintenance, repair and sub-contractor management of medical equipment. This will Include first line support to users of medical equipment to optimise systems up time to gain maximum use of medical equipment.   

Ideally, you will possess a minimum of HNC in mechanical engineering and have relevant experience since qualifying in the field of Mechanical Engineering.  Knowledge in the application and repair on a wide range of medical equipment used in a hospital and community is essential although some specific training will be provided.

Consideration may be given to applicants will reduced knowledge and skills, who follow a personnel development program on a reduced grade.

**Please note that, for this post, you will be required to have obtained a full UK Driving Licence**

The post holder will provide specialist technical knowledge for the implementation and delivery of a long-term operational plan for cost effective and efficient management and deployment of safe medical devices across the care organisations. They will be working towards achieving  compliance levels for medical device repair and maintenance including down time and ensure that systems are available to enable clinical teams to have insight into progress with maintenance and repair of their devices.

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

  • Extensive experience in a field of electromechanical maintenance and repair
  • Has experience in fabrication, milling and turning.
  • Has experience in electrical safety testing and knowledge of electrical systems and fault finding techniques
  • Knowledge in the application and use of a wide range of engineering equipment.
  • Knowledge of CAD
  • Experience of bespoke design of electro/mechanical products

  • Wide range of supplier approved training on the servicing and repair of Electro biomedical equipment
  • Experience of working in a ISO9001 engineering environment
  • Knowledge and experience of current legislation recommendation for the management of medical equipment
