An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Prescription Clerk to work in partnership with the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technician at the practice to process repeat prescription requests in line with practice protocols. 

The post holder will also be the first port of call to deal with medication queries, they will escalate appropriately to other members of the medicines management or clinical team. They will build and maintain good relationships with all the care homes and local pharmacies. The post holder will work with the medicines management team to help to reduce prescribing costs, by ensuring medicines waste is minimal.

Process repeat prescriptions on a daily basis ensuring compliance with the prescription hub protocols.

Perform regular searches on drugs requiring monitoring hence minimising the risk of adverse effects.

Ensure all current medication have relevant, current authorisations.

Promote cost-effective prescribing at the practice through switching drugs to the generic preparation when appropriate and encouraging the use of local primary care trust formulary medication choices.

Deal with prescription queries from a range of healthcare professionals including GP’s, nurses, community pharmacists, nursing home staff as well as reception/administration staff at the practice.

Perform searches and act upon drug alerts.

Liaise with Pharmacies regarding monthly dosette box prescriptions.

Be the first point of contact to coordinate responses to email/telephone enquiries.

Support the PCN team in coordinating audits to support improved patient outcomes.

Experience

  • Previous experience working in pharmacy or a GP practice.

  • Previous experience working with or in care homes (involved in medication)

Knowledge
