Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity to join a well-developed upper limb and trauma service within the major trauma centre at Salford Royal Hospital and the Northern Care Alliance for a 12-month period.

 

Salford Royal Hospital is the major trauma centre (MTC) for the Greater Manchester region.  The Upper Limb service provides cover for a variety of shoulder and elbow conditions in both elective and trauma settings.The successful candidate will above all be a productive and cohesive member of the Upper Limb team able to provide ongoing patient care.  The successful candidate should have:

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

Contribute to undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical and multi professional education activity including teaching as necessary.

Conduct appropriate duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Multidisciplinary teamwork is envisaged as a key component of the working of this Trust and will involve Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussion with other colleagues.

Development of special interests that fit in with the Directorate needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.

Undertake ward rounds as appropriate.

Have an out of hours commitment to trauma patient management as part of an on-call rota.  Job plan review pending implementation of Major Trauma rota.

Provide evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and a Licence to Practice
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • ATLS
  • Fellowship training in Shoulder & Elbow Surgery
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree such as: PG Master PG Diploma
  • Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners

Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of completion of audits
Desirable criteria
  • Published in peer reviewed journals
  • Presented at conferences/ meetings

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Within 6 months of CCT, or have CCT/equivalent
  • Shoulder Upper Limb Fellowship trained
  • Logbook evidence of upper limb trauma and elective surgery and general trauma surgery
Desirable criteria
  • Over 1 year of shoulder upper limb experience – soft tissue and arthroplasty
