Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a TACP in General Surgery. The post holder will practice under supervision as a trainee in Advanced Clinical Practice in general surgery as part of the Colorectal team to develop a high level of expertise within the specialist service providing advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families and carers. The post holder will be required to undertake and complete a programme of education to achieve a Masters level qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent CAT points.

·       Candidates must have GCSE(grade 4-9)/O'level(grade C-A) in Maths and English or equivalent certificate of comparability via NARIC/ENIC(for applicants whose qualifications are outside the UK) or Level 2 functional skills.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the colorectal directorate as a trainee advanced care practitioner. The role will involve working as part of the colorectal Faster Diagnostic Standards (FDS) and general surgery service and will include a mixture of clinical skills. The successful candidate will be involved in the management of patients referred with a suspicion of cancer up to the point cancer is ruled out.

They will also be involved in the management of patients with other General Surgery conditions as required and in consultation with the medical team. As a fully supervised practitioner undertake patient consultations, assessments, clinical examinations, order appropriate investigations (when trained and approved), & interpret investigation findings. The post holder will also manage the colorectal 2ww team and work with the clinical and management lead to improve clinical practice through participation in Audit and Research to maintain Trust performance. 

 Although the job plan on completion of the training will be individualised there is the opportunity to broaden the scope of practice to incorporate other skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

   Direct responsibility for assessment, examination, investigation and diagnosis of patients within their area of work under direct or indirect supervision of a Consultant Mentor / supervisor.

Appropriately treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.

  Receive referrals via a variety of sources, including direct patient referral. Work within agreed protocols and working practices.

 Participate in multidisciplinary clinics; participate in ward rounds, patient   reviews and multidisciplinary team meetings.

 Under direct supervision undertake a variety of clinical skills and provide treatment/ advice as per speciality and scope of practice, until appropriate level of competency achieved using agreed protocols of clinical practice and professional guidelines. This service may be provided within an acute secondary healthcare facility or in primary, community or home care settings

Following completion of appropriate underpinning theoretical content and completion of competency assessment (within scope of practice) request and / or undertake diagnostic procedures and clinical investigations related to plans of care.

 Undertake and complete Non-Medical Prescribing role. When required training completed advice on medicine management issues associated with the patient specialty group. Work within Trust policy for Medicines Management.

Utilise advanced knowledge and skills relating to the speciality to provide specialist advice to other members of the multidisciplinary team on the basis of patient assessment.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary 

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
