Job overview
We understand that balancing work & domestic life is challenging & that shift work doesn't always suit everyone. Because we don't currently routinely open at weekends or on Bank Holidays this role is a great opportunity for someone seeking to develop skills and knowledge, whilst working a more family-friendly shift pattern (Mon-Fri, between 8:00 & 17:30)
The OPD leadership team consists of a Band 8 Matron & a Band 7 Senior Sister. The Band 6 Junior sister/deputy manager holds responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the team & service delivery & enjoy significant autonomy & flexibility to shape the service delivery & influence the departments culture and personality. Junior sister's work flexibly to provide leadership in Ophthalmology Outpatients. The department is currently split over 2 sites, awaiting to move into a new building in Summer.
Main duties of the job
The Junior Sister duties include being a visible and approachable leader on the clinics, empowering staff to provide the best possible service by developing them to achieve their full potential and ensuring they have the resources required for them to do their jobs well. There are opportunities for service development and you will be pivotal to the team’s success; you will take a leading role in writing SOPs, training staff, undertaking audit and investigations, and identifying opportunities and planning for improvement.
The successful candidate will have opportunity to grow and develop through work-based learning and peer support and through structured development programmes, offered by the organisation and HEIs. There may be an opportunity to undertake the Concepts of Ophthalmic Nursing course, has this not already been achieved.

If you are passionate and proud of the NHS, and have a genuine desire to provide excellent, evidence-based care to the local population and would like to develop your leadership potential, then this could be a post for you. We are seeking someone with a genuine interest in Ophthalmology within an outpatients setting, with Ophthalmic and acute nursing experience & ideally within Outpatients, Theatre or Day Case unit experience, who enjoys motivating a team and isn't afraid of a challenge in the pursuit of excellence.
