The vacancy has 1x37.5 (FT) and 1x32hrs (PT) available.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the nutrition support team in a rapidly expanding gastroenterology directorate. As an integral member of the gastroenterology clinical team the post holder will provide specialist care for patients requiring nutrition support (oral, enteral and parenteral). The post holder will join an established nutrition support team composed of: band 7 nutrition nurse, two consultant gastroenterologists with a specialist interest in nutrition, dietitian, SALT and consultant biochemist. Part of the duties will include co-leading a nutrition MDT and supporting up to two-three consultant ward rounds a week in addition to independent nutrition nurse led ward rounds. The nutrition nurse will receive in-house training on how to insert PEGs alongside the existing consultant gastroenterologists and nutrition nurse.
The post holder would also be expected to form close working relationships with the community service to ensure continuity of care for patients receiving parenteral/enteral nutrition. This post will support all disciplines on matters pertaining to nutrition including but not exclusive to: clinical triage of PEG/NG/parenteral/eating disorder/short bowel referrals, audit, quality and risk management and policy writing.
The post includes independent and consultant supported clinics, as well as inpatient support for all adult areas within the organisation.

To provide expert nursing advice and support to patients and their families throughout the pathway, enabling them to make an informed choice based on all treatment options.
Development and provision of training and advice to nursing and junior medical
staff on the management of patients undergoing parenteral / enteral nutritional
support and intravenous therapies
To provide psychological and emotional support for patients through the facilitation of relevant groups, counselling and information sharing.
Support the development of policies, procedures and clinical protocols related to the service (i.e. parenteral / enteral nutrition, management of central line catheters.
Participation in MDT meeting, contributing to the discussion and treatment planning/referral decisions.
To act as a role model in expert practice facilitating and supporting the delivery of
direct specialist patient care, assisting staff to develop appropriate plans of care for patients.
To review service provision in light of critical incidents, patient feedback, national guidance, participate in root cause analysis as appropriate.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.
