**STUDENTS DUE TO QUALIFY AND RETURN TO PRACTICE CAN APPLY**

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, innovative Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join their well-established Band 5 rotational scheme. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop their career in an innovative multi-professional therapy service gaining experience in the specialist areas of: Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Neuro-Rehabilitation, Specialist and Complex Medicine,  Intermediate Care, Community Rehabilitation and Stroke.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and prioritisation skills and be able to demonstrate an adaptable approach to support a 7 day service.

Regular formalised supervision is provided by experienced therapists who will support and encourage the development of clinical skills. There is regular in-service training, preceptorship and Band 5 support.

Job Summary: 

The post offers a 6 monthly rotational programme working across a variety of different areas including Urgent Care, Stroke, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Neuro Rehabilitation, MSK Outpatients and Intermediate Care Services in the community.

  • The Occupational Therapist will act as an autonomous practitioner both professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work
  • Assess and treat patients promoting timely hospital discharge with a home first ethos. You will work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary therapy team to improve flow and quality of a patient’s journey.
  • The caseload will be variable and comprise of a variety of conditions.
  • Optimise the clinical progress and quality of life of patients by providing individualised assessments, evidence-based recommendations and treatment plans across designated wards and clinics.
  • Work as a committed member of the team, contributing to the achievement of Departmental, Team and Trust goals.
  • Provide relevant advice and training to health care professionals on speciality.
  • Participate in service development.
  • Provide specialist knowledge across a range of procedures underpinned by National standards and theory.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a clinical therapeutic service to designated wards, outpatient clinics, intermediate and community services at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Attend relevant ward rounds/meetings such as whiteboards, and liaise with medical, paramedical, nursing, discharge and social work professionals as necessary.
  • Act as a resource for therapeutic information and advice to other professionals.
  • Assist with training and updating healthcare professionals, regarding evidence-based therapy, including giving lectures and informal talks.
  • Collect all data necessary to meet local information requirements and as required by the Therapy service for monitoring.
  • Participate in quality assurance programmes, and development and maintenance of service standards, policies & procedures.
  • Participate in personal and professional development through objective setting and regular job review.
  • Work as a committed and effective member of the occupational therapy staff in order to maximise the potential of the service and profession.
  • Maintain professional competence and expertise by keeping up to date with current research, working practices and models of working.
  • Provide occupational therapy cover for other teams as necessary.
  • Partake in the weekend service rota where applicable.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

 

            If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
