Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to welcome a full-time Consultant into the Stroke Medicine team and the successful applicants will join our expanding team of motivated Consultants.

Candidates with a CCT or CESR in Stroke Medicine are encouraged to apply. Those working towards the CESR qualification who already have experience working at consultant level are encouraged to contact the department to discuss other options. We can also accept applicants who are within 6 months of achieving a CCT in Stroke Medicine.

We are also keen to support colleagues’ professional clinical areas of interest and are open to negotiations on your individual job plan.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be supported and responsible for supervision of junior/middle grade medical staff including support to undertake formal training in educational supervision.

Working with multi-disciplinary teams within the division and other divisions on a regular basis.  As well as working closing with the Greater Manchester Stroke Delivery Network.

You will be expected to participate in Stroke Thrombolysis on call Rota (1 in 9 on call from 7am -11.30 pm only). There are no general medical on call commitments.

You will also be responsible for management of Stroke patients on a post-acute rehabilitation ward.

You will take part in the delivery of a TIA service which we aim to see TIA patients within 24 hours of referral. We have an onsite vascular studies and have access to MR investigations as well as cardiac monitoring.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

  • If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with GMC MRCP
  • Relevant CCT or entry on specialist register expected within 6 months or applied for entry

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience in Stroke Thrombolysis and evidence of attendance at BASP thrombolysis Training or Equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 4-5 years training at ST3+ level in Stroke Medicine
  • Ability to make decisions at Consultant level and takes full and independent responsibility for the care of patients

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supervision of junior medical staff and relevant staff
