Connect NW is a dedicated Neonatal Transport Service which has the highest activity in the UK, working across the whole of the NW region to support the transfer of critically sick and preterm infants for specialist neonatal intensive care. The service provides a comprehensive and high quality level of support to patients and their families, with a predominantly ANNP led workforce. In recent years Connect NW has benefitted from considerable investment to provide a fleet of new dedicated neonatal ambulances and increased funding to work towards 24/7 neonatal transport consultant support. The service has recently moved into brand new accomodation in a single ambulance Hub near Warringon which has provided excellent facilities in a central location.
Connect NW is one of the leading Neonatal Transport Services in the UK, with a high national profile for innovative developments. The service is supported by St John Ambulance, who provide a robust level of ambulance support 24/7.
The service is hosted by Saint Marys Hospital Manchester, which also has one of the highest activity levels for Neonatology within the UK and provides high quality Neonatal Care, co-located with Neonatal Surgery and tertiary Paediatric services.
Main duties of the job
Successful candidates will already possess the ANNP and independent prescribing qualifications and have a track record of working within a level 3 NICU. We are looking for dynamic individuals with high levels of expertise and confidence in Neonatology who will lead Intensive Care Retrievals and demonstrate exceptional team working, professionalism and communication. Candidates will ideally have previous experience of Neonatal Transport or demonstrate their interest in adapting their existing skills to this specialist area. In addition to the clinical duties, there are numerous opportunities to acquire further experience in Clinical Governance, Quality Improvement , Innovation and Research.
The key responsibilities for the successful applicant include:
Leading emergency Neonatal Transfers as an autonomous practitioner with an experienced Neonatal transport nurse. This requires high levels of communication prior to and during the transfer, to provide pre-transfer stabilisation advice to referring clinicians during multi-party conference calls.
The postholder will also support and participate in elective transfer activity including repatriation transfer.
