Job overview

We would like to invite applications for this full time, substantive post of Consultant Neurophysiologist based in Liverpool,  Merseyside, to join our existing team of 4 Consultant Neurophysiologists (3.2 WTE).   Ideally, applicants must have significant EEG expertise in invasive telemetry monitoring, or routine EEG reporting and EMG.    There is flexibility with the job plan content, applications would be welcomed from those with special interests or wishing to develop their skills further.  Candidates wanting to work, part time or flexibly would also be considered.

The Neurophysiology department is part of the Neurology directorate and offers a wide range of services and as part of the epilepsy surgery programme (recently enhanced by NHE confirmation of the Trust becoming the North UK provider for LITT),  long term EEG monitoring/ stereo EEG, 3 video telemetry beds and ambulatory video EEG including home monitoring. We routinely undertake nerve conduction studies/EMG including complex cases, Single-fibre EMG, Sleep studies (MSLT/Polysomnography) and evoked potentials. We also have an active intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring service offering monitoring for cortical, brainstem and spinal surgeries.

Main duties of the job

The full time position is a 10 PA post, though applications are welcomed from those seeking part time work too.  There is flexibility in the job plan, which may be negotiated between the successful candidate and the Trust. The draft job plan includes direct clinical activity associated with EEG reporting (including stereo EEG) and up to 2 sessions of EMG. Applications are welcomed from those with specialist interests and those wishing to develop their knowledge and skills further.   Requests for flexible working will also be considered.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • M.R.C.P. ( or College recognised equivalent)
  • Full General Medical Council Registration

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • CCST in Clinical Neurophysiology (or equivalent) or entry on the Specialist Register for Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Clear Experience of Clinical Neurophysiology particularly Adult EEG including management of complex cases.
  • Stereo EEG
  • Understanding of Clinical Neurophysiology principles and role of Clinical Neurophysiology in diagnosis and management of Neurological disorders
  • Practical and technical ability to undertake Neurophysiological studies and effective use of Neurophysiological testing equipment.
  • Ability to clearly document testing results, adhere to departmental / trust protocols for reporting and keep appropriate clinical records
  • Ability to work as part of a team but show individual initiative when required.
  • Ability to travel to satellite clinic

  • Intraoperative Monitoring

Research

Essential criteria
  • Understand principles of research, requirements of research governance and ethical responsibilities
