General/Dexa Scanning Radiographer

· We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible and experienced Band 6 General/Dexa Scanning Radiographer, who would like the opportunity to join our friendly Imaging Team on the Southport site of the newly merged MWL Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to high standards of patient care, whilst providing a comprehensive and efficient service, following policies and procedures as specified by the Radiology Management Team. The post holder will be required to undertake all general radiographic procedures and Bone Densitometry Scanning utilising complex imaging equipment and evaluating images for diagnostic quality. To supervise the clinical work of radiographers, radiography assistant practitioners, radiology department assistants and student radiographers.

Provide Specialist Bone Mineral Density service. This includes accurate Bone Densitometry Scanning and any administrative duties associated with the role.
To undertake a wide range of radiographic examinations and specialised procedures, including the justification of referrals for radiographic examinations, adapting radiographic technique, initiating the use of supplementary projections and assessment of diagnostic quality.
To advise and assist radiographers in their designated work area in general and specialised procedures.
To participate in the departments ‘red dot’ programme for the initial assessment of radiographic images in trauma and minor injuries.
To advise Radiographers, Radiology Department Assistants and Radiography Assistant Practitioners, on the management of clinically demanding patients.
To participate in the departmental ‘out of hours’ services.

The Secretary of State has approved the partnership between St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals.
From 1st July we have come together as a single organisation under the name Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

This post will involve participation in Dexa Scanning and also offer experience in trauma, theatres and mobiles, dental, paediatrics and CT. The Regional Spinal Injuries Unit is also on the Southport site.
We actively encourage, and provide opportunities for, continuous professional development and role extension. The departments utilise CR and DR systems for all plain film imaging and have a well - established Trust wide PACS system.
We have an ongoing major equipment replacement programme in partnership with GE Healthcare. Staff can be assured, therefore, that they will be working with new equipment/technology in all areas of Radiology.
The S&O sites also have a new Community Diagnostic Centre which commenced in January 2023.

- Registered with HCPC

- Certificate in First Line Management or equivalent
Knowledge & Experience

- Significant experience in all aspects of general radiographic procedures and Bone Densitometry Scanning and an up to date knowledge of current trends in techniques including A+E, Orthopaedic, In-Patient and Mobile and Theatre Radiography.
- Involvement in Quality Control, audit.
- Some experience of working unsocial hours.
- Willing to develop a specialist interest within general radiography.

- Good written and verbal communication skills enabling liaison with patients/visitors/clinicians/departmental.staff/ porters/administrative staff in order to provide an efficient and caring service.
- Able to prioritise work against a background of demand, change.
- Be aware of legislation such as Health & Safety, Ionising Regulations and COSSH.
- Able to display tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work accurately and maintain calm with the pressures of a demanding environment.
- Good team membership skills.
- Ability to train students and supervise radiographers and assistants.
- Possess ‘Windows’ keyboard skills to use the necessary computerised radiology systems and image recording systems.
- Ability to work flexibly
- Understanding of Clinical Governance.
