Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

Job overview
To provide management scheduling of ward 3B, to work collaboratively with ward managers, nurses and admin staff to achieve a smoother run ward with better patient experience.
To maintain that patients are seen within a timely manner.
The post holder will work without direct supervision and exercise significant initiative and independent judgement in managing diverse specialties and workload.
The Team Leader will be responsible for line-management of admin team ensuring adequate cover within the department and deputise where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
Be a part of a busy oncology ward to schedule and ensure the smooth running of the patient pathway.
Responsible for direct supervision of admin staff on ward and clinic. record all sickness and annual leave on E-Roster. Ensure PDR'S are done in a timely manner and all manadatory training is up to date.
To ensure ward and clinic is covered during sickness and leave.
Monitor and supervise all patients journey to and from theatre is monitored and scheduled correctly.
Link in with the Assistant Service Manager to escalte any issues that arise.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To assist in the management of scheduling ward 3B for a smoother pathway for all patients.
· Responsible for the direct supervision of all the admin staff including, monitoring of work, development and support of staff, handling of day-day personal issues, re-allocation of duties to cover periods of absence and escalating to management team if appropriate.
· Responsible for recording staff punctuality, attendance, sickness, and authorization of annual leave via E-Roster
· Liaise with colleagues within the CBU to ensure that supervisory support is available to staff at all times of the working day.
· Ensure theatre lists are fully utilized whilst ensuring that the booking of beds is managed appropriately.
· Manage complaints and aggressive or abusive members of the public locally and advise the public of the Trust’s complaints procedure where necessary. Refer to a supervisor or manager if required.
· Assist with the management of error reports and ensure corrections are completed in a timely and effective way.
· Hold regular team meetings in conjunction with the supervisor in order to cascade information from department management meetings.
· Assist to ensure full staff participation at all trust mandatory training sessions and that the PDP process is completed in keeping with Trust policies.
· Monitor and supervise to ensure all TCI requests are processed in a timely manner and facilitate meeting of Trust targets, escalating to the operational manager if required.
· Monitor and ensure all Department/Trust policies and procedures are being adhered to and that all targets are met.
· Assist the CBU to ensure targets can be planned for, achieved and maintained.
· To assist in providing leadership and act as a role model for staff.
· To ensure Trust guidelines, policies and procedures regarding confidentiality, disclosure of information and data protection are adhered to and observed at all times by staff.
· Assist in implementing any new procedures or systems to improve service efficiency.
· Ensure admin team’s daily duties are covered by sufficient staff and to make the most effective use is made of available staff.
· To participate in data collection, analysis and audits when required, to develop and improve services.
· Work without direct supervision using experience and knowledge.
· Business Continuity Duties – Follow Policies and Protocols to ensure continued effective service.
· Continue to maintain own competencies, ensuring own statutory and mandatory training is up to date.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE in English and maths
- Vocational experience which provides a working knowledge of: • Prioritising patients using a waiting list and reporting waiting list information. • National Policy for Referral to Treatment standards / cancer standards. • Supervising staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable criteria
- NHS experience
