Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has for 2 qualified and ambitious Nursery Nurses to join the Trusts onsite Nursery on a 9 month fixed term contract. Ideally both candidates will be working 30 hours per week on a flexible shift pattern 06:30-18:30. 

The Rocking Horse Nursery is a friendly and child focused nursery that has cared for thousands of staff and local children since its creation. In the recent OFSTED inspection the Nursery received a "good" outcome with elements of outstanding practice.

Main duties of the job

  • To role model positive behaviour, promote the Trust Values and deliver best practice in line with the EYFS.
  • Create an exciting, engaging and stimulating environment for children.
  • Have key worker responsibility for a group of children and be accountable for child development. 
  • Creation of fun activities that promote excellent learning outcomes in line with the EYFS.
  • Comply with all OFSTED, local authority and Trust regulations.
  • Safeguarding of children and escalation of any concerns in line with policy.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 Childcare Qualification or equivalent
  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above
  • Safeguarding Training
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in Education/ QTS Status
  • First aid training

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent knowledge of child development and the EYFS
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection
  • Knowledge of SEN provison
  • OFSTED inspections
  • Understanding of legislation and policies relating to early years

Experience of

Essential criteria
  • Successfully working in an Early Years setting.
  • Planning engaging activities in line with the EYFS and completing regular observations on children.
  • Completing summative assessments and writing reports.
Desirable criteria
  • Famly App

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creativity and being passionate about ensuring excellence within the setting.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
