Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Clinical Fellow - Psychiatry

Based at  Liverpool CAMHS, Innovation Park, L7 

Full time (although part time/less than full time will be considered)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to appoint a full time Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry.  The post will be based within the Liverpool CAMHS team at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will gain experience in the assessment and treatment of patients presenting with a range of illnesses.  There will be an opportunity to learn and implement robust risk management plans.

Main duties of the job

  • Psychiatric Review of children as requested by Consultant/Senior Mental Health Practitioner for Mental State Examination/ urgent psychiatric opinion.
  • Outpatient assessments - both new patient and follow up appointments – with supervision.
  • Management and clinical reviews of routine and sometimes urgent psychiatric referrals with regular case load reviews appropriate to level of experience and with regular access to Consultant advice.
  • Participation in covering onsite duties such as issuing prescriptions and supporting COD (Consultant of the day) as required.
  • Ensure that the clinical records comply with Trust audit standards.
  • On-call duties can be negotiated – if the candidate’s preference is to complete out of hours work then this can be facilitated. They will liaise with Psychiatry 2nd on call regarding potential patient management problems over weekends and evenings whilst on call Out of Hours.

About Liverpool CAMHS

The team provide support to Children and Young People up to the age of 18 with a Liverpool GP, as well as their families and professionals involved in their care.   The team comprises of four multi-disciplinary teams which include staff from varied backgrounds, including psychology, psychiatry, social work, nursing and psychotherapy.  In addition, our team members are trained in a wealth of different therapeutic interventions and approaches, making the teams truly multi-disciplinary. 

We work very closely with the 24hr Crisis Care Team, Eating Disorder team and Sefton CAMHS colleagues, Community Paediatrics, Hospital Paediatrics, Allied Health Professionals and Social Care to provide a comprehensive service for Children and Young People.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience

Essential criteria
  • Full Registration and licence to practice with GMC (or eligibility for)
  • Demonstrable experience at ST3 and above (or equivalent) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Written communication skills in English and the ability to explain clinical procedures to patients
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate an interest in research
  • Ability to work flexibly in regards to teamwork
  • Demonstrate evidence of ongoing commitment to personal and professional development
