Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as Assistant Practitioner Apprentice in our Urology department based at G3 Outpatients department. 

Previous urology experience is an advantage, but applicants will be considered providing they can demonstrate willingness to learn and have relevant medical experience or a healthcare qualification. Applicants must fulfil the below stipulated criteria. The successful applicant will have a structured and supported induction period and will be able to access relevant training.

The following qualifications are essential to apply for this role:

·        A relevant Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification

·        Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent qualifications (i.e. GCSEs grades A*- C/9 – 4, A-levels, Level 2 Maths and English Functional Skills)

Evidence of the above qualifications must be available and submitted prior to interview. If certificates are not submitted prior, this will result in the candidate not being offered an interview. Statements of results will not be accepted

Applicants cannot apply for this position if they already hold equivalent qualifications at the same and or above the level of this apprenticeship standard as they must be in a position to acquire significant new knowledge, skills and behaviors as part of the apprenticeship training.

The Assistant Practitioner will function as part of the Multidisciplinary Team within the Urology Department, to provide a seamless service to patients under the remote supervision of a Registered Nurse/Practitioner.

The post holder will continue to develop and undertake a range of delegated tasks and delegated authority. They will provide a high standard of care for an identified client group and will be proficient and competent to work across professional disciplines.

As this is an apprenticeship position, this role is supported by an accompanying knowledge and skills development programme during which the post holder will gain the relevant knowkedge, skills and behaviours for this role. Learning will be delivered in the workplace through formal on and off the job training; allowing for the opportunity to practise new skills within a real working environment. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the individual will have the right knowledge, skills behaviours they need for their chosen role.

This is an Annex 21 post. 70% of the top of band 4 for the 1st year (which equates to £19,317) and then 75% of the top of band 4 for the 2nd year (which equates to £20,697). Apprenticeship roles are paid in line with Annex 21 of the terms and conditions at between 60-75% of the maximum point on the pay band. The minimum hourly rate will match the national living wage.
