Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Geriatrician with a specialist interest in frailty primarily based at its Aintree Site (Less than full time 0.6PA). The post will offer the opportunity to work in the established Frailty Assessment Unit, providing short stay, ambulatory and in reach services to our older patients.

 

 

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our existing team of 12 geriatricians, including 3 frailty consultants. We have a well-established and innovative team of Geriatricians who provide general and sub specialty services including an Frailty Assessment Unit, Hyperacute Stroke Unit providing 24/7 thrombolysis and endovascular intervention,  Orthogeriatrics providing Orthopaedic in-reach,  Community Geriatrics working with Integrated care Teams,  Metabolic Bone Disease services, Parkinson’s disease service, Falls service and a Day Hospital service

Applicants must be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register and should have CCT in Geriatric Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine (or equivalent), or be within six months of this at time of interview.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be supported by junior doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, allied health professionals and secretarial staff.

  • The post holder will work alongside other geriatricians to develop innovative 7-day services for older people, both within the hospitals and community.
  • They will work with colleagues across sites to develop a seamless, equitable service.

Acute Geriatrics:

  • The successful applicant will provide frailty in reach services to the emergency floor. Although the number of patients will vary each session the number would not be expected to exceed 8 patients.
  • They will contribute to the DMOPS on call rota
  • They will provide clinical supervision to trainees in the Department of Medicine for Older People and Stroke and supervise undergraduates and other students within the department
  • There is the opportunity to develop a rapid access frailty clinic

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder will have sessional work on the Frailty Assessment Unit (FAU) where they will work alongside the Frailty consultants to deliver comprehensive geriatric assessment to patients presenting at the front door. These sessions will involve reviewing short stay patients to a maximum of 12 patients or working within the ambulatory assessment area. The number of patients within ambulatory will vary each day but would not be expected to exceed 8 patients.

Applicants must be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register and should have CCT in Geriatric Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine (or equivalent), or be within six months of this at time of interview.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB ChB (or equivalent) MRCP (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
  • Higher degree such as MD or PhD

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC and licence to practise (or eligible for) On GMC specialist register for Geriatric and General Medicine or Eligible for specialist register in Geriatric and General Medicine

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine (or equivalent training) or within 6 months of attaining one at time of interview.
  • Clinical experience in frailty
Desirable criteria
  • Geriatric and General Medicine experience across the specialties and for the duration required for CCT.
  • Evidence of continuing medical education

Teaching & Training

Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuing medical education
  • Evidence of training & education (PGCE)
  • Evidence of delivery of education, both undergraduate and postgraduate
