Consultant Histopathologist

NHS Medical & Dental Consultant

Trosolwg o'r swydd

Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) wish to appoint a less than full time consultant in Cellular Pathology with a special interests in post mortem pathology, amounting to 5PAs. This would be an ideal post to combine with a practice in Forensic Pathology.

LCL runs a respected, busy post mortem service and, provides a Forensic Pathology service, as well as hosting one of the UK’s four forensic training centres. The service has close links with Liverpool City Mortuary, with our consultant pathologists assisting with the delivery of a community sector post mortem service.

The hospital mortuary currently delivers provision of a post mortem service for Liverpool University Hospitals, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Liverpool Women’s Hospital and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, processing in excess of 200 hospital and coronial post mortems per year. The mortuary also undertakes approximately 200 home office post mortems per year.

This is an exciting opportunity for a pathologist with a substantial interest in post mortem pathology to lead and develop the service. The department will provide 5 PAs for this role, so that the time required forms part of the job plan. It is anticipated that the interested candidate will lead in the development of post mortem training for Histopathology trainees, and further exciting opportunities for undergraduate pathology education are available through our links with University of Liverpool and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
