Job overview
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Rhinology to the Directorate of ENT. The post is available from August 2026 for 12 months, full-time, fixed-term. Aintree University Hospital is the main tertiary referral Hospital for Liverpool, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales.
On call commitments are currently 1:9 prospective night and day time cover. Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council.
Main duties of the job
This is a busy clinical fellowship aimed at senior trainees who have at least six years’ experience as a Specialist Registrar (SpR)/ Speciality Trainee (StR) or equivalent and hold both the MRCS (or equivalent) and an ENT exit examination (FRCS or national equivalent). This post is also available to candidates who hold a U.K. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or national equivalent.
It is intended that the successful candidate will become trained in all aspects of rhinology, advanced endoscopic sinus surgery and rhinoplasty. The candidate will gain exposure to anterior skull base, sinonasal malignancyand extended endoscopic anterior skull base surgery. Significant exposure to external septorhinoplasty is also expected. The successful candidate will have a central role in the preparation and presentation of patients in the Head and Neck Oncology and Skull Base MDT meetings.
It is expected of the fellow to become involved with data collection, updating existing database and publish on clinical outcomes of the rhinology unit. There will be numerous research and clinical audit opportunities for the successful candidate.

Emergency daytime cover will be provided 8am to 5pm, one week in twelve (1:12) during which normal daytime commitments are cancelled. Out-of-hours cover will be on a one-in-nine

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCS, FRCS (ORLHNS) or equivalent.
- Peri-CCT/European Board ORL examination
- GMC Registration
Desirable criteria
- Higher qualifications BSc, MD, MPhil, MSc
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Completed at least ST 8 level or equivalent higher surgical training in Otolaryngology
Desirable criteria
- Core Surgical Training experience in related specialties (e.g. Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Maxillo-Facial Surgery)
Skills
Essential criteria
- Flexibility Team Worker Teaching ability Basic surgical techniques
- Experience in endoscopic sinus surgery, rhinology, head and neck surgery
- Managing ENT emergencies e.g. tracheostomy, neck wounds, epistaxis
Desirable criteria
- Surgical skills: Endoscopic sinus surgery and attendance at relevant courses
- Experience in septorhinoplasty
- Exposure to anterior skull base and frontal sinus surgery
Other
Essential criteria
- Evidence of audit & research publications in surgery
Desirable criteria
- Publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at learned society meetings/ conferences
- Good Clinical Practice certificate
- Experience with organising courses, meetings etc.
