Job overview

This is a full time (10PA) substantive NHS Consultant Post in Genitourinery Medicine and Sexual Health. The post holder will be employed by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT). The post will be based within the Liverpool axess service (Hub clinic at Royal Liverpool University Hospital) with clinical sessions provided to axess Wirral satellite HIV unit in Birkenhead.

 

We are seeking to recruit a Consultant with specialist skills in Genitourinary medicine/integrated sexual health (including outpatient HIV clinics, management of sexually transmitted infection & contraception). The appointee will contribute in the Clinical Governance programme within the wider axess sexual health service and will have dedicated time to be Liverpool audit lead. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in research supported by our research lead and dedicated research nurse dependant on individuals experience and interest.

Main duties of the job

Axess Sexual Health Liverpool is the largest Sexual Health service provider in Cheshire & Merseyside.  

Axess has a total annual attendance of approximately 83,000 patient contacts per year.  The service is open 6 days a week and provides open access sexual health clinics. There are specialist clinics available for Young People, HIV, PrEP, men who have sex with men (MSM), Trans and non-binary people, Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) clinics, Complex contraception (including ultrasound), Genital Dermatology and sexual problems (Sexual Problems  Service).

The appointment will be a full-time (10 PA) Consultant Physician in GU / Sexual Health, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with office accommodation provided at axess Liverpool – Royal Liverpool Hospital.

The post is based at axess Liverpool (Linda McCartney Centre @ Royal Liverpool Hospital) with provision of 1 x HIV clinic at our Wirral Satellite HIV clinical unit (Birkenhead Medical Centre, Wirral).

The appointee must hold the MRCP or equivalent and hold Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent and/or specialist registration with the GMC in Genitourinary Medicine, or be within six months of CCT at the time of the appointment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post has 10 Programmed Activities –7.5 for direct patient care and 2.5 for supporting activities including clinical audit lead.   Final timetable will be confirmed with the successful candidate on appointment and reviewed after an appropriate period in line with the trusts job planning policy.

Post is Royal College of Physicians approved

EDUCATION & RESEARCH

Essential criteria
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist register for GU Medicine via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community rights
  • MRCP or Equivalent
  • Basic Medical Qualification registrable in UK
  • Diploma in GU Medicine
  • Management Training
Desirable criteria
  • Appropriate Higher degree (eg MSc, MD / PhD)
  • Teaching qualification appropriate to sexual health e.g. Faculty registered trainer, STIF trainer
  • Research/publications in sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS /Contraceptive/Reproductive Health and other aspects of Sexual Health
  • MFSRH

  • Excellent patient communication
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibilities and supervise staff
  • Ability to undertake robust audit within team structure

  • Management of Sexually transmitted infections

  • Clinical experience in other aspects of women’s sexual health i.e. vulval disease, psychosexual counselling, etc.
