Job overview

The post holder will work closely with the Lead EPMA Pharmacist, Pharmacy IT Systems Manager, and Pharmacy IT team with maintenance of Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) and other Digital Pharmacy systems.

The post holder will have responsibility for co-ordinating aspects of all IT related systems within the Pharmacy department. This includes the development, installation and support of new and existing systems, providing training and appropriate documentation for pharmacy staff and liaison between software/ hardware suppliers and LUHFT IT teams.

Responsible for the daily management and supervision of the pharmacy IT systems, including the production of financial and statistical information from such systems.

Main duties of the job

1.    Routine maintenance & support of pharmacy IT systems in liaison with their supplier(s), LUHFT IT teams and designated pharmacy staff

2.    Maintenance of data quality and data reporting associated with pharmacy IT systems, notably the Stock Control & Electronic Prescribing & Medicines Administration system(s)

3.    Development and delivery of training plans and materials for pharmacy IT systems

4.    Leadership, co-ordination and participation in developments of pharmacy IT systems as determined by the needs of the pharmacy and hospital

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Assist with the management of all aspects of pharmacy IT systems with appropriate liaison with system suppliers and LUHFT Pharmacy and IM&T staff to ensure the continued delivery of their functions
  2. To assist in the project management of all upgrades of the electronic prescribing system and ensure all software functions have been tested before going live, and advise on the potential impact within the department. 
  3. To manage electronic prescribing files and parameters, continually audit data integrity.
  4. Assist with the design and maintenance of standing operating procedures (SOP) and training materials to ensure that pharmacy staff know how to operate Pharmacy IT systems correctly
  5. deliver training to Pharmacy staff in the use of Pharmacy IT systems
  6. Where appropriate, facilitate & provide out of hours support in relation to Pharmacy IT systems
  7.  Support the Lead Pharmacist for Electronic Prescribing and Pharmacy IT systems manage
  8. Develop reporting solutions to support Departmental and Trust objectives
  9. Assist with the development of Pharmacy automation where appropriate
  10. Undertake dispensing and Final Dispensing Checking duties as required to maintain own dispensing and final checking competence, and to support weekday, weekend, Public Holiday and late-night rotas (Specific to Pharmacy Technician in the post only)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 / BTEC in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent pharmacy IT experience)
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Society where appropriate (specific to Pharmacy Technician in post only)
Desirable criteria
  • BTEC level 4 Professional Diploma in Dispensing Checking (or equivalent)
  • Data Analytics qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmacy IT and electronic prescribing systems
  • Proven experience of managing projects
  • Knowledge of IT Infrastructure requirements and servers
  • Ability to extract, manipulate and visualise data from pharmacy systems using SQL and other BI solutions
