Respiratory Physiologist ATO

Band 3

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic band 3 Respiratory Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) to join our expanding Respiratory Laboratory.

This exciting role will provide the successful candidate with a wonderful opportunity to develop skills with further training in the performance of spirometry and other tests. Leading to the ARTP full certificate in spirometry.

Primarily based at the Respiratory Laboratory, Aintree University Hospital you will play an active role in this busy department. You will be given relevant training in performing spirometry on  patients in diagnostic respiratory clinics.  After a period of relevant training and supervision you will be performing spirometry both within the hospital site but also at various clinic locations throughout South Sefton and Southport and Formby locales.

As the service develops, there will be a requirement for staff to rotate around satellite clinics within the North Merseyside area.

The successful candidate will be required to work closely with the medical team, our admin team, other clinical physiologists in the department and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

It is essential that you are self-motivated and have good communication skills. You should have clinical experience, preferably within the NHS.

Main duties of the job

The Band 3 postholder will be required to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team towards the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disorders and contribute to and maintain excellent standards of patient care and clinical practice.

The role involves daily face to face interactions with patients to support the wider team to deliver education, instruction and treatment so excellent communication and reporting skills is essential.

Once training is completed to perform spirometry independently at various locations within North Merseyside.

With appropriate training and instruction, to maintain the stock levels with the current inventory recording system/process, liaising with senior staff with regards to ordering.

There will also be a requirement to assist in more advanced investigations for example CPET testing.

It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.
